1. The Broncs have put together a couple of big wins this season (i.e. - Arizona, Creighton and Birmingham-Southern), but has been side-tracked with late-inning losses (i.e. - Prairie View A&M and Lamar). What does the team have to do in order to become more consistent?
MR - "We just have to make the routine plays, and we'll be fine. Everything will work itself out as long as we make the plays and get the clutch hits."
2. You were recognized as an All-Tournament selection at the Al Ogletree Classic where the Broncs captured the tournament title. How much did that selection build your confidence, and how much did that title help the team?
MR - "Personally, it really built my confidence. It helped greatly. From a team standpoint, we really needed those games, especially after coming off some tough losses."
3. With 24 games already in the bag, the Broncs are slowly closing in on the midpoint of the season. What is your evaluation of the team thus far? MR - "It's been a kind of up-and-down like a roller coaster so far. Unfortunately, we have experienced more lows than highs."
4. If you were asked to grade your performance thus far - what would you give yourself and why?
MR - "Personally, I don't think that I've played my best yet. It's definitely not up to par in my opinion so I would give myself probably a six out of 10."
5. You are the jack-of-all-trades on the team by catching, pitching, designated hitter and seeing some action at first base. Usually a player specializes in one area, but you obviously don't - how can you explain what it's like to prepare for various roles?
MR - "I come to the ballpark everyday expecting the unexpected. I prepare myself mentally for any position I might be playing, and I go out there competing for a starting job."
6. Your brother is an assistant coach for UT - San Antonio, and you recently picked up the win on the mound against the Roadrunners at the Al Ogletree Classic in the game. Do you hold bragging rights over him?
MR - "I definitely do, but he's been giving me some heat because of how I won the game. I only threw one inning, and we got the lead when I was in the game, but a win is a win so I'll take it."
7. Baseball players are notorious for being superstitious. What superstitions do you follow?
MR - "I put my pants and shoes on the right side first. My shin guards go on the right side first. My catching mask and helmet hasn't changed for the last two and a half years."
8. In Major League Baseball, all anyone wants to talk about is the steroid issue. What's your view on the current state of professional baseball?
MR - "It's obvious that using steroids is cheating. However, steroids don't help a person's ability to hit a baseball. That comes from sound fundamentals and technique. Steroids might help the ball travel further, but those guys have so much god-given talent and ability that they're just freaks of nature."
9. What were your goals coming into the 2004-05 season?
MR - "All I wanted to do this season was play a consistent role in the lineup and perform consistently."
10. Who has had the greatest impact on your life and why?
MR - "I would say my dad because he taught to respect the game or the game won't respect you. It was great advice, and I think that the further that I go in the game the more it's paying off."
