UTPA BroncBusters - Kyle Tudi

Oct. 10, 2005

1. What are your goals for the season both individually and as a team?
KT - "I would say that individually it would be a couple of things, (1) obviously I want to win a tournament, (2) finish the season with a scoring average of 73.0 or lower and (3) record a couple of top ten finishes. As a team, I would like to see us become more of a team. I think that we are becoming a closer bunch and are working hard to make each other better."

2. How did you begin playing golf?
KT - "I've lived on a golf course all my life, and when I was younger, I used to grab a club and a couple of balls and go play. I started playing competitive golf when I was about eight and played throughout high schools. My parents never played golf so I kind of picked it up myself."

3. What do you go through in preparation for a tournament?
KT - "I like to focus on a tournament a couple of weeks out from when we actually start to play. I like to work on the parts of my game that need attention, and I try to find out as much information as I can about the course so that I can get a good feel of it."

4. What is the biggest challenge you have had to overcome?
KT - "In golf, it would be just staying focused. I think that's what golf is all about because it's hard enough to stay focused during an entire round of golf."

5. What do you see as your role on the team this year?
KT - "I think that my role is to try and get the freshmen comfortable with adjusting to collegiate golf and college life. It's such a huge jump from high school to college, and there can be a lot of distractions so I try to the adjustment as comfortable as possible. "

6. Is golf more mental or physical and why?
KT - "It's definitely more mental than physical. You can be the biggest, strongest player out on the course then completely fall apart when something goes wrong. It's so important to keep a cool head because you are going to hit bad shots, but you have to keep your composure and work through it."

7. Who has had the biggest impact on your life and why?
KT - "My father because he has always been there for me. He has helped me so much, and it doesn't matter how many times I screwed up because he continue to guide me. I definitely wouldn't be here without him."

8. What is one thing about being a collegiate golfer the average non-golfer wouldn't understand?
KT - "I think that it's how much work is required to be competitive at this level. It's unbelievable how good everybody plays and how competitive it is in every tournament."

9. It's still very early in the season, what do you think is the team's biggest strength?
KT - "I think that we all mesh really well together. I think that our personalities are similar, and that'll help us down the road. We have a strong work ethic and are completely supportive of each other."

10. What has been the biggest adjustment with new coach Andrew Tredway?
KT - "I have nothing against Coach Scott, but Coach Tredway is completely what we need to get this program where we need it to be. I think that the motivation was missing last year, and Coach Tredway really has us moving in the right direction."
