Jeremy Salvo

Salvo Named SLC Student-Athlete of the Year

June 1, 2005

Senior Jeremy Salvo (Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada/Centennial Secondary School) became the first player from The University of Texas-Pan American to be honored as the Southland Conference Student-Athlete of the Year in men's tennis when the selections were announced on Wednesday (June 1).

Salvo, who also garnered All-Academic recognition for the second time in his career, was a second team All-Southland Conference performer on the court during the 2005 campaign. A double major in business administration and finance, he graduated with a 3.79 grade point average and was one of three students to be honored by the College of Business Administration with the Academic Deans' Outstanding Service Award.

Salvo was also honored at the UTPA Athletic Banquet with the Lou Hassel Award for the highest GPA among all UTPA male student-athletes in May of 2005. He was a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and held the position of treasurer this past year.

On the court, Salvo finished the season with a record of 8-7 while playing both number one and two singles. He was 4-2 in singles' action in the Southland Conference. Along with doubles' partner Rehman Esmail (Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada/North Carolina State), Salvo finished with a 10-5 record, including a 4-2 conference mark.
