Three Golfers Earn NGCA Honors

July 15, 2004

Three members of the University of Texas - Pan American women's golf team were rewarded on Thursday (July 15) by the National Golf Coaches Association for their efforts in the classroom.

Juniors Nikki Boychuk (Conroe, TX/Willis H.S.) and Stefanie Maynard (Pflugerville, TX/Pflugerville H.S.) along with sophomore Elizabeth Rodriguez (Kingwood, TX/Kingwood H.S.) were all named All-American Scholar recipients by the NGCA. In order to qualify for the award, all students must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.50 while completing at least 66 percent of the college's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.

Maynard, a manufacturing engineering major, was named the Independent Co-Golfer of the Year after she won her second consecutive National Minority Golf title. She was a first team All-Independent selection for the first time in her career. The NGCA award becomes the fifth academic honor for Maynard this season as she was named a 2003-04 United States Achievement Academy (USAA) All-American Scholar and a member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll, Dean's List second honors and Spring Bronc 3.0 Club.

Boychuk finished second at the National Minority Golf Championships, losing out to Maynard by two strokes. She was a second team All-Independent selection. A journalism major, Boychuk tied a school-record by shooting a three-round score of 222 at the Bronc Intercollegiate Classic at The Club at Cimarron in February. She was named to the 2003-04 UTPA Athletic Director's Honor Roll and earned a spot on the Bronc Pride 3.0 Club. She was a member of the Dean's List second honors.

In her first season with the Broncs, Rodriguez finished fourth at the National Golf Minority Championships and selected to the All-Independent second team. A pre-med/chemistry major, she was a Dean's List second honors selection and a two-time member of the Bronc Pride 3.0 Club.
